Our last stop in Malaysia was Malacca, which is a historical city listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Malacca was the site that European colonists first made contact with Malaysia. It was first colonized by the Portuguese and then later ruled by the Dutch and the British. The city contains many heritage sites and colonial structures and is a popular destination for tourists. The most interesting thing to me about Malacca however were the Trishaws, which are colorfully decorated bicycle carriages that carry guests all around the city with pop music blaring.
First McDonald's Opens in Vietnam!
Today was a historic day in Vietnam. The first McDonald's in the country opened in Saigon, and we were on hand for the grand opening. The store also features Vietnam's first 24-hour drive-thru service. We arrived shortly before noon and saw a big crowd of people in front of the store. I was excited to sink my teeth into some good ole McDs burgers and fries. After standing in line for about 20 minutes under the hot sun however, we ended up going across the street to have lunch at Popeyes.
