Saigon Zoo

We always like to check out zoos and aquariums wherever we travel.  Our apartment is a five minute walk from the Saigon Zoo and the entrance fee is only 8,000 dong (38 US cents), so we have visited the zoo a few times. We went to the zoo late in the day the first time we visited, and it closed before we could see everything so we came back a few days later.  The Saigon Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world (8th oldest) and has a fairly large collection of animals.  Many online reviewers who have visited he Saigon Zoo have complained about the poor conditions that the animals live in.  The condition of the zoo definitely does not meet up to western zoo standards and some of the animal enclosures are small.  We enjoyed going to the zoo however as we lowered our expectations before hand and did not observe anything too bad.
