After a week back in Saigon, we decided to take a day trip to Can Gio Forrest. Joining us on the trip were Pha, Bi, Vu, and Vivian. Pha and Bi are Yen’s cousins and are University students in Saigon. Vu is Yen’s younger brother who is also traveling in Asia and is staying with us for a few weeks in Saigon before heading back home to Maine. Vivian is Vu’s friend from Hong Kong who came to visit for a few days.
Upon arriving at Monkey Island in Can Gio, we were immediately greeted by long-tailed monkeys walking around all over the place. After purchasing peanuts to feed the monkeys, several of the monkeys followed us around and a few even grabbed the peanuts out of our hands. It was a neat experience being that close to them. After playing with the monkeys, we went to see the crocodiles. When we arrived at the crocodile pool, the crocodiles were all laying around doing nothing. A park employee then came by and sold us some eel to feed to the crocs and things quickly became exciting. We used a wooden pole and string to dangle the eel down to the pool of crocs. The crocs arose from their naps and started rustling around in the water and jumped after the eel. It was a very thrilling experience and an awesome sight to see. We then concluded our trip with a speedboat ride through the forest where we got to see mangrove trees and other vegetation.
Vu petted this monkey on the head. The monkey did not like it and jumped at Vu. Vu was left with a few light scratches on his stomach. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough to grab any photos.
